About Mike
Mike was born and raised in the mid-west, specifically Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri, before his family moved to Buffalo. He’s never been back since he left the Great White North. He has a history as a journalist, mechanic and software engineer and now works primarily in digital imagery and woodworking.
The artistic flame was kindled while Mike was in high school in upstate New York. He took every art class offered and also trained extensively in paper-based drafting. Since then Mike has always been associated with various arts and artists, both at home and abroad. He is a self-taught digital artist and woodworker, always looking for unique ways to express his vision and share for the enjoyment of others.
Mike completed a certificate program in Computer Aided Design (CAD). Studies in AutoCAD and 3D imaging and rendering software bolstered Mike’s ability to bring technology to the artistic side and were really the genesis of work in digital art, specifically working with fractals. He uses a CNC router to complement his traditional woodworking skills, making useful and beautiful designs in various hardwoods and exotics.
Woodworking
We offer a variety of premade wood projects as well as custom made projects. Our projects vary from cutting boards and wooden art pieces to large coffee tables and dining room tables. The possibilities are endless…we just don’t build stuff you can get from Ikea. (We feel like Ikea is endangering the particle board tree population so we only work in hardwoods.)
Fractals
Fractals are complex but structured, contain an infinite amount of detail, and can be generated by computer programs that iterate repetitively on certain mathematical equations. It is a non-Euclidian branch of mathematical geometry that has found application in fields as diverse as astrophysics, chaos theory, and stock market analysis. (Mike does not dabble in astrophysics, chaos theory or stock market analysis. He does make asinine amounts of sawdust.) Each fractal image is the result of finding a base image based on various mathematical equations and functions. The image is then twisted, distorted, colored, layered and otherwise modified until an interesting piece of art emerges.
Art By Turner offers captivating Fractal Images printed on aluminum with a floating frame in a wide variety of sizes; sure to be perfect for the space you are decorating.
